Board Member Vacancies

Would you like to be involved in growing and strengthening the kindergarten movement?

Do you value and demonstrate whanaungatanga, manakitangi, kotahitanga, aroha and kia manawanui?

If you answered yes to both questions then we would love to hear from you.

Two of the three appointed positions on the NZ Kindergartens (NZK) National Governance Board are vacant. The positions are appointed by the Board and will be for the remainder of a two-year term to 31 December 2020.

We invite people who have an enthusiasm for community-based organisations, a passion for kindergarten and early childhood education, and who are interested in governance at a national level, to apply for the position.

We welcome applications from people who have a commitment to New Zealand’s cultural heritage and bicultural practice. In particular, applicants need to be strategic thinkers, have sound knowledge of business management and skills in risk profiling and mitigation, and the ability to design governance policy to support the organisation’s strategic intent.

The NZK Board comprises seven members including the President. The President and three of the Board positions are elected by the membership, and three positions are appointed by the NZK Board. The Board meets at least six times each year alternating one and two-day meetings held on Friday and/or Saturday. The meetings are held in Wellington, and the two-day meetings enable the Board to meet key stakeholders. The Board hosts an annual national membership meeting, a biennial annual conference and in each alternate year a national governance hui. The Board positions are voluntary with a meeting fee and expenses paid.

The Board member position description and person specification is available below. The Board invites applications by 22 March 2019. Interviews will be held in April with a view to welcoming the appointed Board members to a May meeting.

If you would like further information, please contact Chief Executive Jill Bond on or 027 495 0282.

Please submit your application to NZK National Office by 5pm Friday 22 March 2019 to briefly outlining your interest in being appointed to the Board, and your experience and skills and/or curriculum vitae to support your nomination.
